Dacia Grandster: Why a 7-seater SUV would be a perfect fit for Dacia!
A Dacia 7-seater SUV could perfectly complement the Dacia model range. We thought about what a large SUV could look like.
Dacia has undergone an astonishing development in recent years. The brand for cheap basics has become a manufacturer that knows exactly what many people really want: robust cars, plenty of space and fair prices. With the Duster, Dacia tapped the SUV boom early on, the Jogger is a clever family all-rounder, and with the Bigster, they threw a cheap, large SUV onto the market.

But if you're honest, there's still one model missing from the range that would fit perfectly into this new Dacia world: a really large SUV with seven seats – bigger than anything Dacia has built so far. Our renderings show what such a car could look like. And one name almost comes to mind: Dacia Grandster.
Design: After Bigster comes Grandster
Even at first glance, our Dacia Grandster looks like a mixture of Duster and Bigster – only once again properly grown. The front would bekantig, self-confident and typically Dacia: a wide grille with a new Dacia logo, sharply defined LED headlights and a beefy bumper with lots of black plastic trim.
This would not be an SUV that wants to look slick - but one that looks as if it could easily cope with a dirt road or a family vacation with a roof box.
In the side view, it becomes clear why the Grandster would be so exciting: The car is significantly longer, the window strip extends far back and the proportions literally cry out for three rows of seats. This is exactly what a real seven-seater should look like – not like a compromise, but like an SUV that is really made for families.
The rear would also be pleasantly functional. Wide taillights, a large Dacia lettering and a skid plate look ensure that the Grandster looks robust without being overly ostentatious.
Motorization: Sensible instead of crazy
Of course, a Dacia Grandster would not become a horsepower monster. Dacia stands for pragmatic technology that works and remains affordable. The large SUV would probably rely on the familiar drives from the Renault Group.
Above all, the following would be realistic:
- a hybrid drive similar to the Jogger Hybrid
- an efficient petrol engine with mild hybrid support
- possibly an all-wheel drive version for certain equipment
A diesel would be rather unlikely, but an economical hybrid fits perfectly into the times – and would also make the Grandster interesting for families who travel a lot.
Features: Lots of everyday life, few frills
Dacia would probably also hit the sweet spot in terms of equipment. The Grandster would not be a luxury SUV, but it would of course have to offer more than a basic Bigster.
One might expect:
- seven seats as standard
- a huge trunk with the third row folded down
- Modern infotainment with a large touchscreen
- Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- Practical shelves and robust materials
- Assistance systems such as adaptive cruise control and lane departure warning
Dacia would probably go back to what they do best: features that really help in everyday life, instead of technology gimmicks that only drive up the price.
Why would the Grandster be a perfect fit for Dacia?
The idea of a Dacia Grandster would actually be the most logical next step. Because the market has a huge gap: Large family SUVs such as the Skoda Kodiaq or Peugeot 5008 have now become so expensive that many buyers can no longer afford them. Vans are also hardly on the market anymore - and visually such a high-roof station wagon does not meet everyone's taste.
Dacia could start right here and offer what hardly anyone else delivers: a true seven-seater SUV at a price that doesn't escalate completely. The Grandster would be the SUV version of the Jogger principle, so to speak: maximum utility value, honest design and a price that does not immediately deter families.
Price: Large but affordable
Of course, a Grandster would be more expensive than a Duster or Bigster – but still a Dacia.
Realistic would be:
- Entry from approx. 32,000 Euro
- well-equipped versions around 38,000–40,000 euros
- Hybrid and all-wheel drive with a small surcharge
This would probably make the Grandster the cheapest large 7-seater SUV in Europe – and that's exactly what could make it so successful.
Conclusion: The Dacia Grandster would be a bestseller candidate
An SUV above the Bigster sounds like a dream of the future at first, but it actually fits perfectly into Dacia's current strategy. A large, honest family SUV with seven seats would be exactly the car that many are looking for but can hardly afford.
And if it really looked like it did in our renderings, Dacia would not only have the largest, but perhaps also the smartest SUV of the brand on offer with the Grandster.
